New High School - Oregon Trail School District

City of Sandy, Oregon

APG prepared Conditional Use and Design Review applications on behalf of the Oregon Trail School District (OTSD) for approval by the City of Sandy to construct a new high school. APG also prepared two Variance requests and an application for a Tree Removal permit for the project.

The construction of the new Sandy High School was funded as part of a bond measure approved by voters in November 2008 for $115 million. Of that, $82 million was earmarked to build the new high school proposed in this development application. The location of the school along Bell Street has been shown on the city’s Comprehensive Plan Map since 1997. The location and topography of the site, in addition to the large scale of the school, presented a design challenge for the District and their consultants. Overall, the design of the new high school provided the OTSD and residents of Sandy a new, state of the art school designed to serve the needs of high school students and the community into the future.

The new Sandy High School is located on 65 acres of the 83 acre site. The balance of the 83 acres will remain in open space and natural areas. The high school itself is approximately 309,750 square feet and includes 71 classrooms in Phase I. The project was completed in the fall of 2012. The approved site plan indicates how the site has the ability to increase the capacity of the school in the future to a total of 1,800 students.
